What to expect in a Tanning Treatment

What is Spray Tanning and how does it work?

Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) is a colourless sugar and the active ingredient in our tan solution. Applied using a specialist low pressure spraying machine, the DHA in the solution interacts with proteins and amino in the outer layer of your skin to produce a golden colour brown colour.

The colour you see at the time of your treatment is purely a guide colour for your therapist to see that your skin is evenly covered. Your actual tan will have developed and will be revealed after you shower.

Is it safe?

Yes, Very safe. A Sienna X sunless tan can give you the same results as spending 10-14 days in the sun, but without the harmful effects of UV exposure. DHA has been approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for use in the personal care industry forever 30 years and no adverse affects have been reported other tan minor skin irritations.

Allergic reactions are extremely rare, however if you have experienced allergic reactions to  self-tanning or other beauty products please arrange a skin patch test with me.

Before, during and after your treatment...

Upon booking your tanning treatment with me, you will be asked to fill in an online form with regards to your health and skin. Without this form being completed and e-signed your appointment is unable to proceed.

Prior your appointment you will receive the following information on how to prepare your skin and look after your tan.

Before your tan-

  • Exfoliate the night before your tan paying particular attention to dry areas such as elbows and knees.
  • Remove any unwanted hair 48 hours prior to your tanning treatment.
  • DO NOT use moisturiser, perfume or deodorant on the day of your tan
  • Remove contact lenses before treatment to avoid contamination
  • Bring loose dark clothing and flip flops or loose shoes. Tight clothing will cause the tan to rub off whilst developing.

After your Tan-

  • Leave the tan to develop for 8 hours. Shower until the water runs clear. Do no wash or rub.
  • Do not perform excessive exercise, perspire or get wet during the development.
  • Avoid long baths or going swimming as this will fade your tan.

  • To enhance your tan and prolong your colour. moisturise daily with my Sienna X Gradual Untinted Lotion.
  • Start to exfoliate four days after your tan to encourage even fading.
